INTRODUCTION:

Ayurveda is having holistic approach towards life mainly concerned with the treatment of body, mind and soul. Kayachikitsa is the first branch of Ashtang Ayurved that deals with general medicine, where kaya means body and chikitsa means treatment. This branch deals with various physical and psychological diseases like Jwara, Rakta-pitta, Shotha, Prameha, Unmada etc. This Department is imparting Under Graduate and training in theory as well as practical and Research on various diseases through Ayurvedic principles of treatment and therapy such as Samshodhana (Biopurification), Rasayana (Rejuvenation) and Vajikarana (Aphrodisiac), etc. in accordance with the syllabus and curriculum prescribed by the National Council of Indian System of Medicine and as adopted by the Goa Ayurveda University. This Subject is mainly concerned with the principles and methods of treatment of diseases.

Medical Conditions Comprehensively Managed by Kayachikitsa-

  • Gastrointestinal Disorders (Hyperacidity, Constipation, Flatulence, Indigestion, Dysentery, Malabsorption, Food allergies etc)
  • Hepatobiliary Disorders (Jaundice, Liver Cirrhosis, Ascites, Gall stones, Hepatitis etc)
  • Musculoskeletal Disorders (Osteoarthritis, Spondylosis, Slip Disc, Backache, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Gout etc)
  • Neurological Disorders (Paralysis, Bell’s Palsy, GB Syndrome, Motor Neuron Disease, Neuro-degenerative disorders etc)
  • Lifestyle related diseases (Metabolic syndrome, obesity, Dyslipidaemias apart from chronic ailments like Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Kidney diseases, etc)
  • Psychological Disorders (Depression, anxiety neurosis, Schizophrenia, OCD, Insomnia etc)
  • Oncological Disorders (Adjuvant therapy for various Malignancies)

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES-

  1. To upgrade the teaching, training and patient care.
  2. To upgrade the research work.
  3. To increase number of patients in OPD and IPD and develop the special unit of Psychological Disorders (Manasroga) and Degenerative Musculo-skelton Disorders (Mamsa-Asthi-Sandhi Roga), Diabetic and Cardiovascular disorders along with special clinic for skin disorders.
  4. To develop protocols of research and management of various disorders based on Ayurvedic principles of management.
