Department of Dravyaguna deals comprehensively with the knowledge of basic principles of Dravyaguna as well as Rasa, Guna, Virya, Vipaka, Karma and Prabhava (pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics) of Dravya, especially of medicinal plants. The branch also deals with identification, collection, storage and preservation of medicinal plants and raw materials of herbal origin. AIIA, Goa is in the process of developing herbal garden and has more than 200 medicinal plant species planted in the campus. The department is equipped with museum of crude drugs and a well-equipped lab for teaching-learning purpose.
The department works to provide the knowledge of fundamental principles of Dravyaguna, drug action as per Ayurveda and conventional system of medicine.

Objectives:
- To provide quality education to undergraduate students and PG and PhD scholars with classical as well as contemporary knowledge.
- To provide analytical testing facility for the raw drugs with the help of modern analytical tools.
- To develop excellent medicinal plant garden for the demonstration of various medicinal plants as well as cultivation of some of the prevalent medicinal plant species.
- To work for preserving traditional knowledge about medicinal plants.
- To educate the common people about the medicinal uses of commonly available medicinal plants for their wellbeing.
- To work for preservation of the biodiversity of medicinal plants in the region.
