Theme: Enhancing Teaching and Research Competence in Rachana Sharir

Introduction

The Department of Rachana Sharir, All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa, successfully organized a six-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) program for teachers of Rachana Sharir from 8th to 13th September 2025. The CME was designed to provide participants with comprehensive exposure to advanced anatomical knowledge, practical demonstrations, and innovative teaching methodologies.

The program was uniquely structured to integrate traditional concepts of Ayurveda Sharir with modern anatomical approaches, including radiological imaging, plastination, embalming, and virtual dissection techniques.

Additionally, the CME emphasized faculty skill development by encouraging innovative classroom practices, hands-on training, and critical discussions on research opportunities in the field of Rachana Sharir.

Objectives of the CME

  • To strengthen teachers’ understanding of classical concepts of Rachana Sharir in the light of modern anatomical science.
  • To impart practical exposure to advanced dissection methods, embalming, plastination, and virtual learning.
  • To introduce modern diagnostic and imaging techniques relevant to anatomical teaching.
  • To foster research aptitude and microteaching skills among faculty members.
  • To provide a platform for academic exchange between experts and participants across the country.

Day-Wise Academic Highlights

Day 1 – Monday, 8th September 2025

The program commenced with registration and a formal inauguration.

  • Session 1: Prof. Mahantesh B. Ramannavar delivered a lecture on the Dehadan Procedure and Anatomy Act, focusing on the ethical and legal aspects of cadaver donation.
  • Session 2: Dr. Ashutosh Kumar Yadav conducted a Lumbar Puncture Demonstration and Spinal Cord Dissection, emphasizing clinical relevance.
  • Session 3: Prof. Ramannavar demonstrated Foetal Dissection and Mounting, highlighting developmental anatomy.
  • Session 4: Dr. Swati Bedekar presented on Typical Dissection of the Abdomen, integrating clinical correlations with Ayurveda anatomy.

Day 2 – Tuesday, 9th September 2025

  • Session 1: Dr. Swati Bedekar discussed Radiological Anatomy and Imaging Techniques, stressing their utility in teaching and diagnostics.
  • Special Interaction: Prof. Dr. Krishna Garg, Ex-Professor and Head, Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi, and Chief Editor of BD Chaurasia’s Textbook of Anatomy, interacted with the participants and shared her valuable experiences, inspiring faculty to enhance their teaching and research approaches.
  • Sessions 2 & 3: Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sharma elaborated on Tantra Sharir and Granthi Sharir, revisiting classical texts with modern interpretations.
  • Session 4: Dr. Ashutosh Kumar Yadav explained Srotas Sharir, enhancing understanding of body channels in relation to physiology and pathology.

Day 3 – Wednesday, 10th September 2025

  • Session 1: Prof. Nilesh Korde presented on the Practical Relevance of Marma Sharir, emphasizing surgical and clinical perspectives.
  • Session 2: Prof. Sunil Kumar Yadav conducted a session on Advanced Teaching Modules with Virtual Tools, providing hands-on training with virtual anatomy software.
  • Session 3: Prof. Korde elaborated on the Concept of Praman Sharir, linking ancient measurement principles with modern anthropometry.
  • Session 4: Prof. Sunil Kumar Yadav demonstrated Embalming and Specimen Mounting Techniques, ensuring effective preservation for teaching.
  • Special Event: A video prepared by the students of the Department of Rachana Sharir, highlighting the journey of the department—a chronicle till date—was released by Prof. Sujatha, Dean, AIIA Goa.

Day 4 – Thursday, 11th September 2025

  • Session 1: Prof. Seetharam M. conducted a detailed Craniotomy and Head-Neck Dissection.
  • All participants also visited the AIIA Hospital, where they observed its functioning and the wide range of facilities being provided to the public by AIIA Goa.
  • Session 2: Prof. Yogesh Badwe demonstrated Layer-wise Dissection on Cadaver, highlighting surgical incisions.
  • Session 3: Prof. Badwe continued with Special Methods of Dissection and In-vivo Anatomical Study of neurovascular bundles, muscles, and anatomical triangles, enhancing clinical correlation.
  • In the evening session, the faculty of the Department of Rachana Sharir conducted a hands-on training session on the Virtual Dissection Table at the Virtual Lab. Participants actively explored and experienced this advanced digital anatomy learning tool.

Day 5 – Friday, 12th September 2025

  • Session 1: Prof. Kalpana Raje trained participants in Plastination Techniques and Specimen Mounting, a modern method for long-term preservation.
  • Sessions 2 & 3: Prof. Saroj Patil discussed Applications of Rachana Sharir in Ayurveda and Comparative Considerations of Sandhi Sharir, merging classical understanding with biomechanics and orthopaedics.

Day 6 – Saturday, 13th September 2025

  • Session 1: Dr. Sudhir Kumar guided teachers on How to Teach Garbha Sharir from an Ayurveda Perspective, focusing on pedagogy.
  • Sessions 2 & 3: Prof. Royana Singh conducted Microteaching Sessions on Research Areas in Rachana Sharir along with a Practical Histology Demonstration.
  • Session 4: Dr. Sudhir Kumar presented on Kala & Twacha Sharir, explaining the Ayurvedic description of body layers.

The program concluded with a Valedictory Function, where learnings were summarized and certificates were distributed.

  • Integration of Ayurveda and Modern Anatomy: Balanced emphasis on classical concepts (Marma, Srotas, Praman) alongside modern anatomical methods.
  • Hands-on Practical Sessions: Live dissections, embalming, plastination, histology, and imaging exposure.
  • Pedagogical Innovations: Training in microteaching, virtual anatomy tools, and research methodology.
  • Expert Faculty: Eminent speakers from across India enriched the sessions with their expertise.
  • Distinguished Guest Interaction: The presence of Prof. Dr. Krishna Garg, a stalwart in the field of anatomy, added immense value by sharing her vast teaching and editorial experience.
  • Outcome-Oriented Approach: Designed to enhance both subject knowledge and teaching methodologies for Ayurveda anatomy faculty.

Conclusion

The six-day CME program for Teachers of Rachana Sharir was a comprehensive academic initiative that successfully bridged the gap between Ayurveda Sharir and modern anatomical sciences. Through a blend of lectures, demonstrations, virtual training, and hands-on sessions, participants not only deepened their subject knowledge but also enhanced their pedagogical and research skills.

This CME marked a significant step in upgrading the academic standards of Ayurveda education, empowering teachers to integrate classical wisdom with modern anatomical insights, ultimately benefiting both students and the healthcare system.

On June 21, 2024, AIIA Goa hosted a vibrant celebration for International Yoga Day 2024, organized by the Department of Swasthavritta and Yoga. The event commenced with Dhanvantri and Patanjali Stavana followed by a warm welcome to Chief Guest Mr. Sunil Anchipaka and Guest of Honour Smt. Jyoti Sirdesai. Participants engaged in dynamic Yoga sessions that encompassed various styles, promoting holistic health and well-being. Dr. Yogesh Shinde highlighted the month’s activities, emphasizing their role in raising awareness about Yoga’s benefits. The common Yoga Protocol and Yoga Fusion event was followed by insightful addresses from Mr. Sunil Anchipaka, IAS Officer and Director of the Department of Tourism, and Guest of Honour Smt. Jyoti Sardesai, from the Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration and Prof. Dr. Sujata Kadam, Dean, AIIA Goa Campus underlining the importance of Ayurveda and Yoga in fostering physical and mental wellness and promotion of wellness tourism in Goa.

A two day workshop on Basic Neonatal Care and Neonatal Resuscitation

A two day workshop on Basic Neonatal Care and Neonatal Resuscitation was organised by the Department of Kaumarabhritya, All India Institute of Ayurveda,Goa on 22nd and 23rd January, 2024.
Dr Deepak Pande, MBBS,MD Paediatrics served as the Master Trainer/ Resource person for the workshop. The workshop commenced with lighting the lamp followed by Dhanwantari stuti..The presidential address was delivered by Dean AIIA Goa, Professor Dr. Sujata Kadam. Dr. Rahul Dhanraj Ghuse, Associate Professor, Department of Kaumarabhritya provided a comprehensive briefing about the workshop, setting the stage for the upcoming sessions.The keynote address was delivered by the esteemed resource person, Dr. Deepak Pande, establishing the significance of the workshop. The Training sessions covered a broad spectrum of theoretical and practical knowledge related to basic neonatal care and resuscitation. Session also included common issues faced during Neonatal care, and their preventive measures. Participants were engaged in practical sessions, applying acquired knowledge in simulated scenarios. Practical aspects included resuscitation techniques, proper handling of neonates, and essential care practices. The workshop provided a holistic understanding by seamlessly integrating theoretical concepts with practical applications. Opportunities for participants to actively participate and clarify doubts enhanced the overall learning experience. Facilitated interaction among faculties, medical officers, and staff nurses, fostered a collaborative environment for continuous learning. Dr. Deepak Pande summarized the workshop, emphasizing the critical importance of both theory and hands-on training in ensuring effective neonatal care as well as resuscitation.Participants were urged to integrate the acquired skills into their practice, with a strong recommendation to revisit and practice the techniques learned at least once every six months.This workshop not only equipped the participants with essential neonatal care skills but also fostered a sense of responsibility to consistently apply and update their knowledge in the field.




Review meeting of the National workshop on the development of SOP in the management of PCOS through Ayurveda

A two day ‘Review meeting of the National workshop on the development of SOP in the management of PCOS through Ayurveda’ was organised by the Department of Prasuti Tantra Streeroga, AIIA, Goa on 17th and 18th November, 2023 for which total twelve subject experts throughout the country were invited. An inaugural function was held on 17th November which was graced by the presence of chief guest Dr. Mahendra Ghanekar , Senior Gynaecologist, North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa, Goa. The session was followed by the presentation of the draft finalised in the previous Workshop held at AIIA, Delhi. Following it, the inaugural session was concluded with the presidential address by Respected Dean Prof. Dr. Sujata Kadam and Vote of thanks by Dr. Akhila M. Assistant Professor, SRPT Dept in the end




8th Ayurveda Day Rally …..

On the occasion of 8th Ayurveda Day 2023 and as a part of Jan Sandesh, Jan Andolan, All India Institute of Ayurveda,(AIIA) Goa in association with CCRAS, Goa; National Ayush Mission(NAM), Goa Ayurveda Medical Association had organized a rally at Panjim, Goa. The rally started in the morning at 9.30 am from Urban Health Centre, Panjim Goa. Rally was flagged off by Dr Geeta Kakodkar(Director, Urban Health Centre) and Dr Sujata Kadam (Dean, AIIA.) The rally covered various areas of the city involving 500 participants. (Out of which 200 Students of AIIA, 100 students of Gomantaka Ayurved college, Goa.75 doctors of NAM and 100 Doctors, non teaching staff from AIIA, 50 Ayurveda practitioners) participated in the rally. Slogans for promotion of Ayurveda, healthy life were recited during really. The citizens of Panjim participated in Ayurveda Day Rally. It was concluded in the Urban Health Centre. The Dr Sujata kadam( Dean, AIIA) Dr Raman (I/c Director CCRAS), Dr Minal Joshi, (Dy. Director, NAM). Dr Sneha Bhagwat, (President, Ayurveda Doctors association) address the rally. Prizes for various competitions organised by CCRAS like essey, rangoli, slogans were distributed. Dr Mohan Joshi (AIIA) and Dr Swapnil Auti (AIIA) coordinated the programme.

 




Induction Ceremony for the second batch

The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AllA), Goa, an ellite institute of the prestigious All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi, proudly conducted its Induction Ceremony for the second batch of students in a solemn event held at the Multipurpose seminar hall, AllA, Goa.

The ceremony, which took place on the 3rd of November,2023, was marked by traditional rituals and speeches from distinguished guests. The proceedings began with the soul- soothing Dhanwantari stuti, followed by the auspicious lamp lighting ceremony. In a symbolic representation of the revered Guru-Shishya Parampara, the teachers tied threads to the newly joined students, signifying a bond of knowledge and trust. The occasion was rather enriched by the Charaka Deeksha, a solemn Oath-taking ceremony. The event witnessed the participation and valuable insights from various dignitaries, including Prof Dr Sujata Kadam, Dean, AllA, Goa, who delivered the welcome address, Dr Mohan Joshi who introduced the institute, giving attendees an insight into its mission and vision and Dr Umesh Tagade, Honourable joint Director. The anguished Dr Raghuram Bhatta, President of NCISM, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor. The Chief Guest, honourable Dean of the Goa Medical College, presented his thoughts. He opined that the Ayurvedic interventions should be scientific, research based and stressed on quality assurance. He also emphasized the need for stringent academic standards and advocated his willingness to collaborate with AIIA, Goa  witha vision for integrated approach to treatment which aims to provide superior health care facilities to patients. Prof Dr Tanuja Nesari, honourable Director, AllA, delivered the Presidential address, offering guidance and inspiration. The Associate Dean, Dr Kalpana Sathe, expressed gratitude and extended the Vote of Thanks. The Induction Ceremony concluded on a patriotic note with the rendition of the National Anthem, symbolizing unity and commitment towards the promotion of Ayurveda.

Two days workshop on “PRAKRITI TOOL VALIDATION TO MAKE KIOSK” was organized by the department of Kriya Sharir, AIIA Goa on 26.10.2023 & 27.10.2023 as a part of Ayurveda day ‘Ayurveda for everyone ‘
Asso Dean, Prof Dr Kalpana Sathe (Professor & HoD Dept of KRIYA SHARIR) as a Chairperson and Dr Resmi B G (Asst. Professor Dept of KRIYA SHARIR), as a secretary worked in the organizing committee.
This workshop was aimed at to produce A KIOSK – A validated tool for Prakriti assessment. It will help in understanding a core concept of Prakriti in system of education equally it will serve clinicians to map personalized treatment, lifestyle etc.
On first day 26.10.2023, Workshop was inaugurated by the seeking blessings of Lord Dhawantari & lamp lighting by Dean Prof. Dr Sujata Kadam & all stalwarts invited for the workshop from various zones of India. Formal welcome & opening remarks were by the Prof Dr Kalpana Sathe to brief about workshop. Dr S M Sathe sir as a chief guest & Director, Prof Tanuja Nesari mam as a President, virtually chaired the inaugural ceremony of the workshop. In presidential address Director, Prof Tanuja Nesari mam expressed that Science, Technology & Holistic Ayurveda must work collaboratively to generate evidenced based science. Vote of thanks was given by Dean Prof Dr Sujata Kadam.

On the second day 27.10.2023, after scientific session, a report read by Prof Dr Sarita Ohol, A memento as a token of appreciation was given to all experts. Presidential address was delivered Dean Prof Dr Sujata Kadam & Vote of thanks express by Prof Dr Kaplana Sathe .
In these two days of workshop Dr. Reshma K (Medical Officer), Mr Vinayak ( IT Engineer). Shreya (Lab technician), Harshad (DEO), Sampada (MTS) and the supporting staff of other departments equally rendered their service to complete the workshop successfully.
During these two days of workshop, exchange of knowledge taken place through the scientific sessions, panel discussions etc. carried out among the external and internal to fulfil aim. Plan to design the KIOSK with adhering to Ayurvda classics was the fruitful outcome of this workshop.
